Shopping for Pregnant Pants

After a very miserable Friday spent wedged into a pair of stylish dress pants that would barely zip and were digging alarmingly into my squashy midsection, I decided that I really needed to break down and go look for some maternity clothes.

Yikes. Let's just say right now that pants with huge panels of stretchy material on the front will never look sexy on a hanger. They don't even look that sexy on your body, but it's much much worse when viewing them on the rack.

I tried on about 5 pairs at a couple different stores, each time gazing in horror into the mirror and thinking "no way -- I absolutely cannot wear something this awful" before Target saved the day. There I found a pair of very cute cargo-style khaki pants that a) actually fit me (most true maternity pants at this stage really are too big for me) and b) didn't look hideous. Score!

Even Josh agreed that they looked cute. But only after I put them on. When I held them up to show him, his eyes got really big and he nearly choked trying not to laugh. I told you they don't look good on the rack.

Shirts were somewhat easier. The pregnant look is in this year -- even non-maternity clothes are featuring that "tight around the boobs then tenting out" look. I ended up with 4 new tops that I'm pretty excited about. I'm pumped that I'll be wearing summer pregnant clothes. It just seems like it'll have to be easier to find cute dresses and stuff rather than cute winter sweaters. But maybe I'm just optimistic.
