We had a monthly checkup yesterday and, of course, the first thing they do is weigh you. I bravely stepped onto the scale and the nurse said a number that didn't seem to bad to me. Then there was a pause and she said -- "hmmm, are your ankles swollen? You've gained 6 pounds in 11 days. You must be retaining water."
6 pounds in 11 days?? You have got to be kidding me. That's just alarming. Maybe I really am growing a space alien in there rather than a child.
But never fear -- it turns out that they had recorded the previous number wrong. In fact, I had only gained 2 pounds in 11 days, which was considered acceptable. Whew. That's a relief.
I'm sitting at 17 pounds of total weight gain at the moment. It makes me cringe but the doctors assure me it's perfectly within the margin of what you're supposed to have gained by the time you're 22.5 weeks pregnant. So there you go.
My husband added his commentary to the whole situation by suggesting that my new nickname be "Chubbs." Thanks, honey.
