Except for "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
That one bugs me. Specifically, the line you often hear in bad pop renditions: "So let's give thanks to the Lord above cause Santa Claus comes tonight."
Um....really?
I am comfortable acknowledging the two, shall we say, distinct lines of Christmas tradition -- baby Jesus and the guy in red. We plan on introducing Ellie to both. It's the confluence of the two that I find a bit unsettling.
But sometimes that combination can work. Like when Santa Claus shows up at the church Christmas party, as he did last night! The five year old contingent was especially impressed by his appearance, but I think Ellie was suitably wowed as well. She found the beard quite enchanting.
