On the Mend

For any interested parties -- a quick Kate health update.

I had an appointment with my surgeon on Tuesday and he said my boob wound is healing really well. It's still a pretty big whole but he expects it to close up by Christmas. YAY! I also don't have to have the home-care nurses coming every day anymore. He decided we didn't need to continue using the complicated dressing I had before (which involved packing gauze into the cavity -- ewww) and can get by with something easier that I can do myself.

I've been pain-killer free for about three days which is exciting. I had been popping ibuprofen and vicodin every few hours for what felt like years and it's nice to not need them anymore.

All of this has made me so glad that I opted to take the full 12-week maternity leave, even if some of it will be unpaid. I feel like it is only now that I am able to really enjoy my leave and my time with the babe, as my darned body is finally cooperating!!
