Hic!

I'd heard that it happens towards the end of pregnancy, but still didn't recognize the phenomenon until after the fact.

On Saturday, I was putzing around the house when I became aware of an unusual sensation originating somewhere "in utero." A sort of rapid but gentle thumping. Very repetitve and regular. Almost like when you can feel your heartbeat in the wrong part of your body after you've been working out.

After a while, it stopped and I thought "huh, that's weird." And then it came to me -- Squishy had the hiccups! Apparently, babies get the hiccups a fair amount in the womb and also for a few weeks right after they're born. I'm not sure why. But it's pretty funny to feel him hicc-ing away in there.

Since then, the hiccups have repeated themselves pretty much every day for at least a little while. I think 20 minutes is his record.
