We're taking a "Baby Basics" class to help us prep for Squishy's arrival. Our first class was last night and we covered things like hospital procedures, diapering and bathing. Poor Josh was a bit horrified by the suggestion that you don't need to bathe your baby every day -- and in fact probably shouldn't for the first few months because it dries out their skin. I could almost see the little thought bubble above his head: "It's going to be pooping, barfing, and spitting up almost constantly and you're telling me it won't need daily baths? Ewwww."
Anyways, one of the topics we covered was identifying jaundice in your baby. I dutifully took out my notepad and pen and prepared to take notes on the subtle signs of this potentially problematic condition.
Here's what I wrote -- Baby Turns Yellow.
Seriously, I expected it to be a bit more complicated than that. But no, apparently jaundice is exactly what you've heard. Your little creature may turn a golden hue at which point you should call your doctor. The teacher said a good test is to press your baby's nose with one finger and if the imprint is yellow, that's that.
