This Sunday was another baby shower. Except that it wasn't a baby shower, really. It was a "momma shower." My fabulous girlfriends here in the Burgh decided that we would probably be getting plenty of Squishy Gear from other sources and that it would be fun to celebrate my impending motherhood and girl power generally.
So on Sunday, six of my pals and I gathered at my friend Emily's apartment to eat some great food, hang out, and enjoy being girls together. My friend Meg works for a couple farmer's markets in the area and provided locally-grown apples and pears, local cheeses, and a bunch of awesome (and local, of course) artisan breads. It was tasty. Dessert was yellow cupcakes, frosted in chocolate, and adorned with small plastic babies. For some reason, the babies all had dark brown mohawks painted on their heads. We're not sure why.
And, as you might suspect, gifts were focused on pampering the mom-to-be rather than the baby-to-be, which was way fun. They got me a bunch of "body stuff" like lotions and bubble bath and sugar scrubs, and some post-pregnancy comfy clothes for hanging out and bonding with the baby. They were all very sweet and bought clothes in complimentary sizes...some of which I'll likely need to exchange for bigger. My one friend, bless her heart, bought me lounge pants in a size medium. I'm pretty sure I couldn't have wedged my rear into those things even before pregnancy (see earlier post on butts). But I was certainly flattered that she thought I could!
