Charitable Wound

Here we are, six weeks after the surgery on my boob and I think the wound has finally healed. Or, if not healed, at least closed. It will still be a while before the final vestiges of the surgery are gone and everything looks normal again, but at least I no longer have an open wound on my breast.

One cool thing did come out of the whole ordeal. For the first few weeks after the surgery, I had to change my dressing twice a day, a somewhat complicated event involving lots of supplies like gauze and tape and q-tips and whatnot. The home-care nursing organization I worked with ordered me my own supply of all this gear...

...much of which is still sitting in my den, now that I no longer need it. They sent a lot.

But there's good news! Thanks to a fabulous Pittsburgh non-profit called Global Links, my extra supplies will be shipped to a hospital in the third world. This is a cool organization. They collect unused medical supplies and ship them by the ton to hospitals around the world that have very little access to these basic necessities.

Who knew that mastitis could be a charitable activity?
