Day Care

I believe that Ellie's day care experience thus far is a success. I was a bit worried, I won't lie. On Monday after work I popped into the center to drop off all of her gear (how a baby needs two big bags worth of stuff is still a bit beyond me) and fill out some paperwork. Unfortunately, I walked in at a chaotic moment when all six of the babies seemed to want something from the two teachers and, given that said teachers only have two hands apiece, several of the babies were crying.

That just about killed me. Objectively, I knew that the teachers wouldn't be able to instantly respond to her every quiver the way that I have been, but it was tough to see that reality acted out before my very eyes.

Happily, when we arrived at the center this morning, Ellie was only the second baby to arrive and the infant room was an oasis of calm. Her companion snoozed peacefully in his crib and I was able to go over her routines and get acquainted with her teacher. I left my girl serenely perched on a large pillow, grabbing at some toys hanging overhead. Whew.

She got glowing reviews when I picked her up this evening. They said she seemed to enjoy herself and was a very good baby. I'm so relieved.
