Well my junior Olympian is at it again! On Thursday she rolled from her back to her tummy. Go baby go.
Unfortunately, I missed it the first time. And ironically it wasn't because she was in day care. I was in the room, just not paying close enough attention. Way to go, mom. Ellie was playing on the floor in the buff and I was putting away her diapers and gear from day care. I heard the sound of her noises change and whipped around to see her on her tummy.
Hmmm, thought I. I'm pretty sure that's not how I left you.
So I flipped her back over and watched with eagle eye. Sure enough, a few minutes later, in one remarkably graceful movement considering all the flailing in the past, she rolled from her back onto her stomach.
And boy did she look proud. You would have thought the child had climbed Mt. Everest from the smile on her face. It didn't last long, though. What my roly-poly girl had failed to take into account is the fact that she doesn't actually like being on her stomach yet. So once the thrill of accomplishment wore off (about thirty seconds later), she started trying to roll back the other way but couldn't pull it off and had to resort to shrieking until I rescued her.
Interestingly, Ellie's only rolling moments have been when she is naked. I have a theory that her diapers make her butt so much bigger that she gets stuck when she's dressed. Beached by one's own bum. How embarrassing.
