Riley is very much a creature of habit. He's quite smart and he figures out routines quickly. It didn't take him long after we brought Ellie home before he learned that "baby in car seat" meant "dog in crate" as we left for some baby-friendly-but-dog-excluding activity like grocery shopping.
But then we took him along at Christmas and suddenly "baby in car seat" has the potential to mean "exciting road trip." Now, in the mornings, he prances around eagerly and often follows me out to the car as I am loading up the baby and her gear.
This morning, his enthusiasm was just too much to contain. When I opened the car door, he leaped into the backseat and settled in next to her car seat, ready for the trip.
The look of betrayal on his face when when ordered to exit the vehicle was pretty funny. We'll see if he tries to stow away again tomorrow.
